Prayers for moms and children

Prayers for Children

Praying for your children is a way to bring their everyday needs to God, not a way to control their future. These short prayers leave room for your child’s voice and for the practical care children need.

A prayer for children at school

Read in context: James 1:5

James invites those who need wisdom to ask God. For a parent, wisdom includes listening to a child, speaking with teachers and responding to concerns.

Father, help my child learn with curiosity and meet others with kindness. Give them courage to ask questions and seek a safe adult when something is wrong. Give their teachers patience and sound judgment. Help me notice what my child needs beyond grades and achievements, and respond with love. Amen.

One practical step

Ask your child what felt good and what felt difficult today. Listen before offering solutions; take reports of bullying or harm seriously.

A bedtime prayer for children

Read in context: Psalm 4:8

The psalm expresses trust in God amid distress. It is a prayer of dependence, not a guarantee that faithful families will never experience difficulty.

Dear God, thank you for the people who cared for me today. Thank you for the good moments, and for listening when I feel sad or afraid. Help me tell a safe grown-up when I need help. Please give me rest, and help our family care for each other tomorrow. Amen.

One practical step

Invite your child to name one thankful thought or one worry. They can also listen quietly; participation does not need to be forced.
